The Commonwealth Court relocated to the Pennsylvania Judicial Center (PJC) on Commonwealth Avenue in Harrisburg in August 2009.
The PJC occupies over 400,000 square feet and has two major areas:
(1) A five story area in the front which houses the Commonwealth Court; with two courtrooms on the third floor for hearings and panel arguments and one courtroom on the fifth floor for en banc arguments.
(2) A nine story area in the back which houses various components of the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts and various Supreme Court officials and various Supreme Court boards and committees.
Since its creation in 1970, the Commonwealth Court had been housed in the upper floors of the Irvis Office Building (formerly the South Office Building).
Members of the Commonwealth Court Historical Society attended the opening of the new facility, including the dedication of the James S. Bowman En Banc Courtroom on the fifth floor on September 15, 2009.
